The converter is a very critical position in the downstream production process, so the monitoring of the converter is very important. Trunnion bearings are monitored by acoustic emission, vibration and grease analysis. The forces transmitted into the bearing housing are recorded by strain gauges. In addition, the axial displacement of the floating bearing and the vertical deflection of the fixed and floating bearings were recorded. Simplified bearing replacement, thanks to a split spherical roller bearing, realized the inspection and bearing replacement of 400 metric tons converter, and perfected the whole set of solutions.
